Wilson Sons has repeatedly obtained satisfactory results at its container terminal Tecon Santa Clara, in Triunfo in Rio Grande do Sul. In March, Tecon Santa Clara saw the highest volume handled since the beginning of operations: 4,765 TEU, equivalent to 2,539 containers. In percentage terms, it represents an increase of 5% in containers and 15% in volume compared to the previous record.
This is the highest throughput recorded at the terminal since 2016 when a partnership between Wilson Sons and Braskem reactivated Pier IV and resumed cargo flow along the Jacuí River and the Port of Rio Grande. The previous record had been in October 2018 (4,510 TEU, 2418 containers or 27,044 tonnes), 5.6% lower than the current record.
Strategically located in the Triunfo Petrochemical Complex, Tecon Santa Clara is involved with multimodal import, export, and cabotage cargo transportation. The terminal counts with two barges and four weekly calls at Tecon Rio Grande, taking cargo from Rio Grande do Sul to the world. Recently, Wilson Sons increased its operational capacity by 33% with the inclusion of the 160 TEU Guaíba barge, replacing the old 120 TEU barge.
“In addition to generating more commercial opportunities for the Rio Grande do Sul market, the development of inland navigation is an important aiding factor to the expansion of more sustainable logistics projects since the use of this modal contributes to the reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases,” commented the Wilson Sons Sustainability Director, Monica Jaén.
