From January to April this year, the Container Terminal at the Port of Salvador, Wilson Sons’ business unit, handled 123,000 TEU, equivalent to 1.531 million tons in import, export, and coastal cargo. It is the largest volume recorded in the first 4-month period since the port began operations 21 years ago. A record was also set in April, with 33,200 TEU handled, mainly motivated by the receipt of imported goods.
Compared to April of last year, the cargo export service grew 32.3%, with greater representation for pulp and paper, tires, and the shipment of grapes and mango from the São Francisco Valley. Cabotage rose 42.4%, driven by chemicals, beverages, and civil construction materials. In imports, the increase was 13.2%, due to greater demand for solar energy, polymers, and caskets. Transshipment and removal increased 124.4%, stimulated by the greater movement of polymers, chemicals, and food.
The following chart, made with data from the DataLiner, shows a history of long-haul cargo handling at Tecon Salvador since January 2017:

“The new record achieved reflects the result of our efforts to enable the Port of Salvador to maintain its high competitiveness, based on investments made in cutting-edge technology, 4.0 logistics, infrastructure, and specialized teams, placing it among the largest operators in the country. These are actions essentially guided by the experience of our customers that generate market recognition and motivate us to move forward, contributing to the economy of Bahia and other states that are in our area of influence”, says Demir Lourenço, CEO of Tecon Salvador.
It is worth noting that this year, Tecon Salvador completed the expansion of the mooring berth, which went from 377 meters to 800 meters. The company also paved an additional 30,000 m² of retro area. The terminal has modern equipment, which includes 3 STS New Panamax, 3 Super Post-Panamax, 3 STS Panamax, and 16 electric RTGs.
