The work does not stop at the port of Paranaguá. To the east, in the Export Corridor, one of the six shiploaders – equipment used for loading ships – was renovated. In the centre, warehouse 10 is being demolished to make better use of the area. To the west, maintenance is being carried out on the pavement, in front of berth 201. Together, the three improvements represent an investment of approximately R$ 16.3 million.
“We are only talking about works with own resources, public investment. If we add private investments to these interventions, the improvements are even greater”, says the director-president of Portos do Paraná, Luiz Fernando Garcia. According to the executive, all these works are aimed at maintaining the safety and quality of operations, in addition to the attractiveness of the Port of Paranaguá for the market.
In the East Export Corridor (Corex), shiploader 6, equipment that dumps export solid bulk directly into the holds of ships, replaced the entire translation system, which makes the equipment move along the site’s rails. BRL 9,554,027 were invested.
According to the Director of Engineering and Maintenance at Portos do Paraná, Victor Kengo, the improvement guarantees greater reliability, safety and an increase in the useful life of the shiploader. “This will result in a reduction in downtime due to maintenance, an increase in operational safety and, consequently, in greater productivity”, he says.
In the last scheduled Corex maintenance stoppage, in the transition from 2022 to 2023, this same equipment had its entire upper part refurbished.
CENTRAL AREA – Located in the central area of the port of Paranaguá, Warehouse 10 was obsolete. Once demolished, the area will be released for operation. This contract, worth BRL 589,000, began in February and ends on the 31st. In the same lot, outside the port area, the warehouse of the former warehouse of Portos do Paraná and surrounding annexes were demolished. These areas will be put up for auction in the future for a new lease.
WEST – The port area also has pavement maintenance, in front of berth 201, which is part of an action plan that encompasses other roads both in the port area and in the sorting yard and public access roads. This investment, started in January of this year, is R$ 6,153,432.64.
On the pier, under this contract, improvements have already been made to berth 202. “Right now we have two active teams: one in the port area and the other outside. While at the pier we are improving here in the 201 area, in terms of access, we are also improving Avenida Coronel Santa Rita”, comments Kengo. Next, the floors of berth 209 and the sorting yard will undergo maintenance.
PRIVATE INITIATIVE – With regard to works and private investments in progress at the Port of Paranaguá pier, two, in particular, stand out. One is the construction of new conveyor belts for unloading fertilizers at berths 208, 209 and 211, an investment of R$ 800 million by Rocha and Fertipar.
The other is the new structure for loading bulk on conveyor belts from Paraná Operaciones Portuárias (Pasa), which is being finalized at berth 204. Adding the construction of the company’s new warehouse, in the external area, Pasa’s investment totals R$ 117 .7 million.
