Hidrovias do Brasil has taken delivery of HB Poraque, built by Salvador, Brazil-headquartered Belov Engenharia Shipyard to Robert Allan Ltd’s (RAL) RApide 2000-E pusher tug design
It is the first of two innovative battery/diesel electric vessels for the leading South American logistics operator with the second vessel, HB Enguia, expected in May 2023.
Both vessels are fitted with a DC grid diesel-electric propulsion system, comprising two diesel generators, two L-drives and a large battery bank.
HB Poraque has a zero-emissions mode using 600-kWh batteries with sufficient endurance to perform its primary role to power two L-drive units, each with input power of 375 kW. Schottel SRP210L thrusters with fixed-pitch propellers are powered by two permanent magnet electric motors.
The entire electric system was designed, manufactured and integrated by WEG, including the battery packs. Two Caterpillar C18 diesel generators provide redundancy and the capability to perform longer missions.
HB Poraque has an overall length of 20 m, moulded beam of 10 m, hull depth of 3 m and minimum operating draught of 2 m. It is certified as an inland navigating vessel by DNV with notations for battery-powered pusher operations on the Amazon.
The vessel’s accommodation is outfitted to MLC-compliant standards for a crew of up to 10.
