Data prepared by ABICALÇADOS (the Brazilian association of shoe manufacturers) indicate that footwear exports slowed down their recovery in July. Last month, 8.8 million pairs of shoes were shipped for US$ 74.18 million, down 1.2% in volume and 5.8% in revenue compared to the previous month, seasonally adjusted. In relation to the same month last year, when Brazil was still facing the heaviest effects of the pandemic, the results are 47% higher in volume and 52.2% higher in dollars.
See the chart below for a history of Brazil’s shoe imports and exports from 2019 onwards. Data are from DataLiner:

Compared to the period from January to July 2019 (pre-pandemic period), footwear exports are slightly higher in volume (+0.7%) but still much lower in generated values (-18.3%).
