A new container service will become part of the routine at the Port of Bahía Blanca in Argentina. Starting at the end of September, the Israeli carrier ZIM, a company that has been in the industry for over sixty years, will operate at the Patagonia Norte S.A. port terminal.
According to reports by Argenports, the maritime company has decided to add Bahía Blanca to its Ushuaia, TecPlata, Santos, Rio de Janeiro, Kingston (Jamaica), and Houston service itinerary.
At the initial moment, the service will have a 50-day rotation, but if the project is successful, the idea is to add a second ship to make the calls more frequent.
Sources consulted by the Argentine media indicated that the terminal has already begun receiving containers from the ZIM carrier, provided by its client Dow Chemical, which are in a small yard awaiting the arrival of the first ship.
This service joins the existing ones provided by the maritime companies Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, with bi-weekly service via Montevideo. It’s worth noting that in mid-July, ZIM inaugurated this new route between South America, the Caribbean, and the United States after an agreement with the TecPlata container terminal at the La Plata port.
During the first stop, made by the Contship Key vessel, more than 100 vacuum-packed frozen meat containers from the company Friggorina were mobilized, destined for the United States and China.
