Itajaí-Açu Port Complex Records Strong Growth in June

The Itajaí-Açu Port Complex in Brazil recorded strong growth in June, with a total cargo throughput of 1,418,432 tonnes. Of this total, 729,609 tonnes consisted of exports and 688,823 tonnes were imports. Compared to the same period last year, imports were up 8%, from 536,939 tonnes. In the first six months of the year, the total cargo movement amounted to 7,833,913 tonnes.
The port complex saw a throughput of 123,949 TEUs in containers, up 9% from the same period last year. In the first six months of the year, the total container movement was 684,876 TEUs.
In June, 73 ships passed through the port complex, 62 of which berthed at the Portonave private terminal, 6 at the APM Terminals and public pier, 2 at the Teporti private terminal, 2 at the Barra do Rio private terminal, and 1 at the Braskarne private terminal.
At the Port of Itajaí (public pier/APM Terminals), 29,963 tonnes of cargo were handled, and the total for the year so far is 186,087 tonnes. In containers, the port handled 52 TEUs, for a total of 334 TEUs for the year so far.
At Portonave, the total cargo movement was 1,364,814 tonnes and 123,897 TEUs. For the year so far, the total cargo movement is 7,539,568 tonnes and 684,500 TEUs.
73 turns were made in the Turning (Maneuvering) Basins 01 and 02. In the Maneuvering Basin 01 (in front of APMT and Portonave), there were 33 turns; 35 in Basin 02 (Baia Afonso Wippel), and 5 maneuvers in the upstream terminals. In the first six months of the year, 456 turns were made in the basin areas.
In the other private terminals, Braskarne recorded a total movement of 7,660 tonnes in June, up 120% from the same month last year. At the Teporti terminal, the movement was 13,661 tonnes, up 8% from the same month last year; and at the Barra do Rio terminal, the movement was 2,334 tonnes.
In June, the Port of Itajaí received two ships carrying cellulose, the first of which docked on Friday, June 1st, with the ship PROVIDANA, carrying 6,054 tons of cellulose; and the second of which docked on Monday, June 12th, with the ship SAGA SPRAY, carrying 14,090 tonnes of cellulose. The two ships were operated by SC Portos and docked at berths 01 and 02 of the APM Terminals.
