Dredging consortium Jan De Nul and Dragabrás started dredging operations on October 29 to remove 16 cubic meters of sediment at Rio Grande Port. Until now more than 590,000 cubic meters have been dredged. The operation will use state-of-the-art SiMCosta technology to measure tides and monitor progress, and will take 10 months to complete. The objective of the work is to achieve a maximum draft of 12.8m, making it possible to receive vessels up to 365m in length, 29m more than the current maximum. The port moved 32.1m tons of cargo in the first nine months of 2018, up 3.4% YoY. Of the total volume of cargo shifted between January and September,12.8m tons were soybeans.
