Foreign exchange revenue from fresh and processed pork exports totaled US$ 212.4 million in January, 32.1% more compared to the same month in 2022 (US$ 160.7 million), according to the Brazilian Protein Association Animal (ABPA).
The amount exported totaled 89.2 thousand tons last month, up 19.6% on the same comparative basis.
China remained, in the first month of the year, as the main destination for the Brazilian product, with 41.6 thousand tons (+32.5%). Other spotlights were Hong Kong, with 7.1 thousand tons (+5.5%), Chile, with 6.5 thousand tons (+53%) and Singapore, with 4.7 thousand tons (+37.7%).

The director of markets at ABPA, Luís Rua, says, in a note, that the increase in shipments to China and Hong Kong attest to the permanence of demand for Brazilian products in the largest consumer market for the protein. “Behavior that should be maintained in 2023.”
Rua recalls that sales to Chile, which are already on the rise, should gain “even more strength” throughout the year due to the recent recognition, by the Chilean authorities, of Rio Grande do Sul as an area free of foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination. “There is also expectation about the effect of Brazilian pork sales to Mexico and the consolidation of the Canadian market”, he assesses.
