Representatives of the South Korean government conducted an audit of five mangoes exporters located in the Vale do São Francisco, an arid outback region of the states of Pernambuco and Bahia. The work was resumed after a three-year interruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), through the Federal Superintendence of Pernambuco (SFA/PE), accompanied the visit, which was also joined by ValeExport, an entity that brings together all the exporting companies that operate in the São Francisco Valley. The delegation from the Asian country was led by inspector Shim Sanghyun from the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA), the Korean equivalent of Mapa in Brazil.
South Korea receives mangoes from five exporters from the region. The exports of the fruit to South Korea were not interrupted during the pandemic. During this period, a partnership was established between the two countries, with recognition of the inspection work done by MAPA and their federal agricultural inspectors, who were in charge of guaranteeing the quality of the products purchased by Korean buyers. From now on, APQA inspections will be carried out only at the beginning of the harvest and not during the entire harvest, as it was before the pandemic.
“Annually, the São Francisco Valley exports about 5,000 tons of mangoes to South Korea. This is our seventh year in this market without interruptions, not even in the midst of Covid,” explains the head of Vigiagro-Vale, the federal agricultural inspector Antônio Romão.
