On November 6, Federal Revenue Service agents together with the Federal Police and the Civil Police’s Special Resources and Operations Coordination (CORE) seized almost a ton of cocaine in the Port of Rio de Janeiro.
The drug was in containers and packed in tablets inside several industrial bags normally used in cargoes of iron ore, which are exported abroad. Investigations indicated that the cargo would go to the Port of Antwerp, in Belgium, in four containers. According to police information, more than 750 kilograms of the drug had already been counted at 6 pm on November 6th.
The substances found were submitted in a preliminary criminal expert report and the result was positive for cocaine. The joint operation also occurred in dry ports in Caju, in the metropolitan region of the state.
The seized narcotic was sent to the Federal Police Superintendence in Rio de Janeiro, where the illicit cargo will be weighed definitively.
According to investigations, the route was switched to Belgium after criminals lost two cargoes at the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands this year. A kilo of cocaine would be worth between EUR 40,000-45,000 in Belgium.
