A survey carried out by ABPA (the Brazilian animal protein association) pointed out that Brazilian exports of chicken meat (considering all products, fresh and processed) totaled 291,600 tons in January 2021, 9.9% lower than the 323,800 tons exported in January 2020.

Chicken meat sales in January this year reached US$ 434.4 million, a decrease of 17.9% in comparison with the same period last year when US$ 529.1 million were exported.

Pork exports reached 63,100 tons, a decrease of 7.8% in comparison with the same period in 2020 when 68,500 tons were exported.

Sales reached US$ 146.5 million, 10.7% less than in 2020 when sales of US$ 164.1 million were reached.

According to the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, the institution found that both in chicken and pork there was an advance purchase of products by importers in Asia, which follow the Chinese calendar. “With the passage of the Chinese New Year and the beginning of a new cycle of shipments, sales levels to the region are expected to return to the levels practiced in 2020. In addition, Brazilian support in supplying products to countries affected by animal health crises can also influence the increase in exports”, he says.
