Cambodia opens market to Brazilian pork
Feb, 17, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202107
ABPA (the Brazilian association of animal protein) celebrated the announcement made by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Supply concerning the opening of the Cambodian market for Brazilian pork.
The opening is valid for fresh and processed pork cuts from industries authorized by the Federal Inspection Service (SIF) of Brazil.
According to the president of ABPA, Ricardo Santin, the southeast Asian country with just over 15 million inhabitants is undergoing an intense process of urbanization and an increase in per-capita income, which influences the growth potential of swine meat consumption per capita, today at 10 kilos per inhabitant per year.
“Cambodia is an emerging hog-producing nation but has recently been impacted by cases of African Swine Fever. In this context, Brazil must establish itself as a solid partner to complement the local demand, helping the Cambodian population to maintain food security”, evaluates Santin.
