Licenses confirm Bracell megafactory
Jun, 01, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202124
New licenses issued by CETESB (the environmental agency of the state of São Paulo) confirm that Bracell, of the Royal Golden Eagle group in Singapore, is in fact installing a mega pulp mill in Lençóis Paulista, in the interior of São Paulo. The plant is twice as large as originally planned and publicly announced.
As in the original project, the license obtained shows that after the expansion, the unit will be able to produce two types of pulp, eucalyptus and soluble kraft, the latter being Bracell’s main market. But volumes have been revised.
The initial forecast was for the production of 1.5 million tons per year in total, considering 250,000 tons of eucalyptus pulp from the existing line, purchased from Lwarcel, and concentrated on dissolving pulp after stabilizing the new operation.
The latest preliminary and installation licenses indicate two possible production scenarios, reaching 3 million tons per year. In the first scenario, also with a total production of 1.5 million tons per year, there will be up to 1.25 million tons of dissolving pulp and 250,000 tons of kraft (from the existing line).
In the second possibility, with production concentrated on kraft, which is the main type of pulp produced in the country, production can reach 3 million tons per year in total: 250,000 tons from already-existing equipment and 2.75 million tons from the expansion.
