In June, VLI and Valec Engenharia, Construções e Ferrovias signed the concession contract for the Porto Franco Integrator Terminal (MA). The asset will be under VLI’s management for the next 15 years, with the possibility of renewal for another five.
Among other contractual obligations, the company will invest more than R$ 20 million in qualifying the terminal and for training during the period. Work on the terminal will begin this July and operations are expected to start in the first half of 2022.
The Porto Franco Integrator Terminal has grain storage and transshipment structures and the forecast is to increase cargo handling in the region, which the company already receives from other terminals, by more than 30%. The terminal also reinforces VLI’s presence in the central northern corridor within the company’s integrated logistics concept.
To integrate the modes, connecting the rail network to the main ports in the North, VLI implemented a logistical solution that already includes the Integrating Terminals of Porto Nacional and Palmeirante, in Tocantins, in addition to the outflow via the Port Terminal of São Luís, in Maranhão. By rail, cargoes of corn, soy, and soy meal leave the interior of the country, pass through the terminals of Porto Nacional and Palmeirante, and continue on to Porto do Itaqui.
