Tecon Santos sets new record in June
Aug, 03, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202131
Santos Brasil reached a new milestone for the Port of Santos: in June, 109,187 containers were handled at Tecon Santos — a monthly record not only for the terminal but also for all container ports in Brazil.
The terminal’s monthly productivity, measured in movements per hour (MPH) of loading and unloading cargo on vessels was 104.32.
Decisive for this milestone was the combination of increased imports and transshipment, giving rise to exports and fewer empty containers compared to the same period in 2020.
The highlights were the automotive sectors – one of the most affected during the first year of the coronavirus pandemic and which has been showing a return to increased import volumes in 2021 – and food, especially refrigerated products such as fruit. The growth of online commerce also contributed.
The average occupancy of Tecon Santos in the month was around 65%. The terminal has enough capacity to meet the expected growth for this year and the next.
