Colombian coffee production drops, but exports perk up again
Aug, 05, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202131
Colombia’s washed Arabica coffee production totaled 1.2 million bags last month, 8% less than in July 2020, the country’s national federation of coffee growers reported today. According to the organization, there are no statistics on total production for the year due to changes in the calculation model that took place in May and June.
The country’s exports, on the other hand, have been picking up pace after the problems of the first half of the year, when protests against the country’s tax reform led to road and port roadblocks. According to the federation, coffee shipments grew 9% last month, totaling 1.2 million 60-kilogram bags.
In the first half, Colombia shipped 6.9 million bags of Arabica coffee, 2% more than the same period in 2020.
