Customs data over the weekend show that China imported 854,000 tons of beef in July. Although July imports increased from June’s 743,000 tons, they were down 14.43% year-on-year as weak domestic pork prices decreased import demand.
China’s customs general administration data show that meat imports in the January-July period totaled 5.93 million tons, up from 5.75 million tons in the first seven months of 2020.

Domestic pork prices have halved since the beginning of this year due to high import volumes and as production increased with efforts to expand breeding after African swine fever decimated herds.
