Argentina to plant corn in record area in 2021/22

The corn planting area in Argentina in 2021/22 will be 7.1 million hectares, a record, according to estimates by the Buenos Aires Cereals Exchange. If confirmed, the increase will be 7.5% compared to the current season, the equivalent of 500,000 hectares.
Planting will begin this month in the provinces of Entre Ríos and Santa Fe and will run until February when planting will be finished in the north of the country’s agricultural area.
“The general scenario reflects a positive trend in terms of area to be planted, linked to the excellent yields of late planting recorded in the previous crop; the climate perspectives that announce a neutral year albeit with some risks of water deficit during the sowing window of other crops alternatives to cereals; a price scenario that remains favorable despite the drop in prices in recent months; and the input/output ratio that remains above the 2020/21 harvest”, says the stock exchange in a report.
