EDP to invest R$41.9 mi in a green hydrogen plant at the Port of Pecém

This Wednesday, Sept. 1, EDP Brasil presented a green hydrogen plant project in the industrial and port complex of Pecém (CE) which will lead to investments of R$41.9 million. As announced by the company, the project was presented to the governor of Ceará, Camilo Santana, by the president of EDP in Brazil, João Marques da Cruz,

The project foresees the installation of a solar power plant with a capacity of 3 megawatts (MW) and an electrolyzer module for the production of hydrogen with guaranteed renewable origin. The modular unit will have the capacity to produce 250 Nm3/h of gas. The unit is expected to start operating at the end of 2022.
In a statement, the president of EDP Brasil stated that Ceará has the attributes to “play a leading role in the process of introducing green hydrogen in the country”, citing the state’s solar and wind potential, as well as its location and infrastructure to transport the product to the international market.
EDP’s green hydrogen plant is part of a research and development (R&D) project for the Pecém thermoelectric plant, installed in
São Gonçalodo Amarante (CE).
