Pecém exceeds 2 million tons handled in a single month, setting new record

In August, the Port of Pecém reached a record handling of 2,161,715 tons, a growth of 33% compared to July 2021. It is the first time that the Ceará port has surpassed the mark of 2 million tons handled in one single month since it opened in March 2002.
Until then, the biggest monthly movement had been registered in October 2019, when 1,859,970 tons were handled. In comparison with August 2020, imports alone grew 80% (1,442,747 tons) and exports grew 51% (718,969 tons).
Year to Date Handling
In 2021 (January to August), handling at the Port of Pecém was 13,821,259 tons, a growth of 32% over the same period in 2020, when 10,491,704 tons were handled.
In the same period last year, imports totaled 6,922,597 tons. That year, it reached the mark of 9,473,984 tons, an increase of 37%. Shipments registered 3,569,107 tons handled in 2020 (January to August). That year, it reached 4,347,275 tons, an increase of 22% compared to the same period last year.
