Fortaleza: 12 missing containers stump authorities at Porto do Mucuripe

The police are investigating the disappearance of 12 containers full of goods that disappeared from a customs zone at Porto do Mucuripe, in Fortaleza. The materials were rented by the company Hand Line Transportes Internacionais, from São Paulo, and were used to store products that arrived at the local customs zone.

The customs zone is used by the Internal Revenue Service and is where customs inspection takes place, including the checking of documents and data on the imported cargo. Goods can only be released from a port after this procedure has been completed.

The case was discovered on September 22. The information obtained by G1  is that the goods placed in the containers were illegal goods and were seized on the spot. The products were to be donated to the Fortaleza city hall, but when it came time to transport them, they were nowhere to be found.  Even the containers were missing.

According to the director of Hand Line, Juliana Borean de Medeiros, the empty containers themselves are valued at R$ 18,000 each; the estimate is that the loss will reach a total of R$ 216 thousand. The equipment was from the company Realreefer and was being rented by Hand Line to be used in Porto do Mucuripe.
