AP Moller – Maersk has signed an agreement to sell Maersk Container Industry (MCI) to Shenzhen-based manufacturer China International Marine Containers (CIMC).
As a result, MCI – founded in 1991 – will become part of the Chinese company that is listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
CIMC will take over the entire organization and assets, including MCI’s refrigerated plant in Qingdao, China, as well as the engineering R&D and testing facilities located in Tinglev, Denmark.
“MCI’s divestiture is part of AP Moller Maersk’s business transformation. Our focus is to be an integrated container shipping and logistics company that creates customer value across the entire supply chain,” says Henriette Hallberg Thygesen, Director of Executive Fleet and Strategic Brands at AP Moller Maersk.
