Vale’s copper concentrate production at the Salobo mine in Marabá (PA) was suspended after a fire partially destroyed the company’s conveyor belt, the miner said in a statement on October 5th. Preliminary estimates point to a return by the end of this month.
According to the company, the fire was put out by emergency teams “without victims and without environmental damage”.
The affected area is undergoing an assessment and the cause of the fire is being investigated, he added.
Other activities, including mine and maintenance operations, are proceeding normally. In 2020, Salobo produced 172,700 tons of copper concentrate.
