China received more than 50% of Brazil’s YTD beef and pork exports
Oct, 06, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202138
Between January and September 2021, China received 58% of the 776,000 tons of pork exported by Brazil.
The same phenomenon happened with beef exports.
The Asian country alone imported 50% of the 1.27 million tons exported by Brazil.
According to the content director of Canal Rural, Giovani Ferreira, the scenario is an opportunity, but it also represents a concern. “The data show how much Brazil is dependent on just one market,” he said.
The chart below shows a history of Brazilian exports of beef and pork to China since January 2019. Data are from DataLiner:

According to Ferreira, Brazil needs a strategy to diversify the market. “If China catches a cold, Brazil may catch pneumonia,” he explained.
