CONAB estimates new record for the Brazilian grain harvest

The new Brazilian grain crop should break a new record in the 2021/22 cycle according to the 1st Grain Crop Survey, released on October 7th by CONAB (the national supply company).

The agency estimates the growth at around 14.2%, which represents an increase of 35.87 million tons in relation to the volume obtained in the previous cycle.

If the forecasts are confirmed, the total production should reach 288.61 million tons, a new record for Brazilian agriculture.

Soy

Soy continues to drive the harvest. The oilseed shows a tendency to increase both in cultivated areas and in production. According to the data. the area to be sown has increased from 38.9 million hectares to 39.91 million hectares, a slight increase of 2.5%.

Corn

As for corn, the trend is to recover crop yields. The high prices of the cereal in the market encourage producers. An increase of 1.6% is expected for the first crop in the planted area, reaching 4.41 million hectares.

Rice and beans

According to initial estimates, the rice and beans duo presents productions that guarantee supply in the domestic market. For rice, production should remain relatively stable at around 11.6 million tons. Beans show a slight growth of 0.8% in the area to be sown during the first crop.

Cotton

In the case of cotton, an increase of 10.2% is expected in the planted area that totals1.51 million cultivated hectares. The cotton crop is forecast at 2.67 million tons, a volume close to that recorded in the 2018/19 harvest.
