ANTAQ preparing agreement with ANTT for a ‘horseshoe’ from Serra do Mar to Santos

The general director of ANTAQ (the national waterway transport agency), Eduardo Nery, said last week that a cooperation agreement is well underway with ANTT (the national land transport agency) related to the so-called Horseshoe, the railway lines that run from the foothills of the Serra do Mar to the two banks of the Port of Santos.
This is a strategic stretch for the railway and port sectors, as it is the necessary path for most import and export cargo. Currently, these lines need to receive investments in order to support the growth in the movement of railway cargoes foreseen for the Port in the coming decades.
“It is unacceptable that we have this bottleneck at the access to the Port of Santos; it urgently needs to be bypassed,” stated the representative of the regulatory agency.
The ANTAQ representative also highlighted the need for the railway in the Outeirinhos region, in the Port of Santos. The circular-shaped yard allowing the transshipment of cargo without the need to dismantle the train will improve logistics in the Santos wharf area.
