Demand for pork decreasing in Brazil
Oct, 28, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202141
The decrease in the population’s purchasing power, which is accentuated at the end of the month in Brazil, has weakened the demand for pork in October, according to the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea/Esalq/USP). The institution identified declines in wholesale pork, with slaughterhouses restricting their purchases of new lots.
Brazilian exports also lost pace after a promising start to the month. According to the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex), in 15 working days, the country shipped 151.4 tons of the product in natura, 9.8% less than during the same period of the previous month and 13.1% lower than in October last year.
