Wheat exports and corn imports guarantee full occupation of the Port of Paranaguá Export Corridor

On October 28th, two unusual operations drew attention at the East Export Corridor of the Port of Paranaguá (Corex) and ensured the full occupation of the port structure. Corex exports bulk solids such as corn, soy in grain, and soybean meal.
One of the operations was the shipment of wheat, a product that is normally imported. The other operation drew attention because of the loading direction: corn arrived at the port, a product that is normally exported, but this time was imported and unloaded at the port. This operation also draws attention for its productivity: 11,000 tons were unloaded within 24 hours.
The Export Corridor connects 11 terminals, by air (by conveyor belts) to three exclusive berths for the export of solid bulk.
Wheat – The product that is usually imported in the ports of Paraná, left in the opposite direction. In Corex’s berth 213, Coamo shipped 20,000 tons of breadmaking wheat from Paraná on the vessel Kian. The product, stored at the Cimbessul Port Terminal, was sent to a mill in Fortaleza (CE), via cabotage. During this period, the shipment of wheat through the Eastern Corridor is viable as the port is less in demand for soybean shipments, according to the complex’s operators.
For this same reason, in berth 214, Centro Sul took the opportunity to unload a load of imported corn.
There were 29,050 tons coming from the Argentinean port of San Lorenzo, in the holds of the Flora K ship. “The importation of corn is nothing new. This year, so far, we have already received almost 307,000 tons at the Port of Paranaguá”, comments the director of Portos do Paraná, André Pioli.
