Brazilian beef exports fall 50% October due to Chinese embargo

According to data received Wednesday from the Ministry of Economy’s foreign trade secretariat, exports of raw beef from Brazil plummeted to 82,180 tons in October, pressured by the suspension of purchases from its main importer, China, now beginning its 3rd month.

In October last year, the country shipped 162,680 tons of the protein abroad, according to Secex.

In September, when cargoes were being sent to the Chinese even after the embargo was announced on the 4th, Brazil set a monthly record for beef exports, with exporters confident that the suspension would be short and not valid for cargoes certified before the sanitary problem.

However, most of the batches shipped in September were blocked by authorities in the Asian country, and the shipments remain stationary at ports in China, awaiting authorization for entry or the green light to proceed to another destination.
