On February 2nd, A.P. Moller – Maersk announced its intention to acquire Senator International, a global freight forwarding company with a strong offer of air freight. To expand its own controlled air network, Maersk is also adding aircraft to its operations: three leased cargo planes that will come on stream in 2022, and two Boeing aircraft under construction that will be launched by 2024.
Senator International is a company with a renowned air freight operating platform with its own controlled capacity and operations in Europe, Asia, South Africa, and America.
The models purchased by Maersk are two new B777Fs and they have also leased three B767-300 cargo planes. To operate and manage this additional capacity, Maersk’s internal air cargo operation established in 1987, Star Air, will become a key vehicle in supporting Maersk’s logistics offering and will operate and maintain their own and leased aircraft while continuing to operate air cargo for current customers.
