Brazil’s IRS seizes 800 kg of cocaine at the Port of Paranaguá
Nov, 08, 2021 Posted by Ruth HollardWeek 202143
The Internal Revenue Service of Brazil carried out two seizures of cocaine on the 6th of June at the Port of Paranaguá. The cargo was destined for the ports of Antwerp, Belgium, and Algeciras, Spain. A total of 795 kg of pure cocaine was seized.
The method used by traffickers was the “rip on, rip off”, when the drug is shipped without the knowledge of the exporter.
The legal loads of both containers were plywood. During the operation, a Falcon dog, of the Belgian Malinois Shepherd breed, was used in locating the drug.
In one of the seizures, several pieces of equipment that would have been used for unloading the drug in Europe were found such as life jackets, rope, carabiners, a GPS tracker, and floating bags were part of the shipment.
In 2021, the Federal Internal Revenue Service has already carried out 22 seizures of cocaine at the Port of Paranaguá, totaling 4,358 kg of cocaine. Due to the increase in apprehensions, the agency will intensify inspections at the end of the year at the ports.
