Tereos increases sugar handling by 30.6%, boosted by VLI’s terminals

The French company Tereos moved 955,000 tons of sugar during the 12 months of the crop year up until November on the rail route that takes the product for export in Santos (SP). The volume represents an increase of 30.6% over the same period last year when the company had not yet benefitted from the improvements in logistical assets received through investments made in partnership with VLI.

The sugar was destined for Tiplam, VLI’s sugar and grain export terminal at the port of Santos, and the increase occurred despite a drop in the sugarcane crop due to drought and frost.

Tiplam is responsible for exporting 25% of all Brazilian sugar via Santos, the country’s main port for the commodity.

In the port complex, the integration with the rail modal and the arrival of 100% of the exported cargo by rail expedited the process flow.

Efficiency increased after VLI and Tereos inaugurated two sugar warehouses built in the terminals of Santos and in the city of Guará (SP) with a total capacity of 240 thousand tons. The warehouses were built for 205 million reais as a result of the partnership established by the companies.

The terminals are not for the exclusive use of Tereos, but the investment guaranteed the sugarcane company the possibility of using the static storage capacity in the assets operated by VLI.
