Antonio José Ferreira Simões, appointed to be Brazil’s delegate to Mercosur and to ALADI (the Latin American integration association), said that the economic bloc needs to be “agricultural” and that Brazil must prioritize agribusiness in relations with others countries.
“We have to think about an agricultural Mercosur. The region produces 30% of the world’s food,” he said during the Senate hearing. He and other diplomats appointed to the positions were approved by the House’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
Simões stated that he will work to increase the number of Brazilian companies that do business in Latin America.
