Rio de Janeiro registers the largest cargo movement of the year

In October, the Port of Rio de Janeiro handled a total of 906,000 tons of cargo. The number was the highest monthly volume registered in 2021, surpassing last September’s handling by 15.4% and growing 31.1% compared to October 2020.
The report by the business planning division of Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ) also points out that the Port of Rio de Janeiro’s turnover in October was the second-highest of the year, in nominal terms, reaching the mark of R$ 20.5 million. The value is 27.8% higher than the September turnover and 4.3% more than the result obtained in October 2020.

Considering the joint performance of the four ports managed by the Port Authority – Rio de Janeiro, Itaguaí, Niterói, and Angra dos Reis – in the accumulated result for this year, from January to October, cargo handling at Docas do Rio totaled 53.2 million tons, an increase of 21.7% when compared to the same period in 2020. At the Port of Rio de Janeiro alone, the main cargo handled – containerized cargo – increased 29.6% compared to the previous year. Summing the handling of containerized cargo at the ports of Rio de Janeiro and Itaguaí, the increase is 13.6%, comparing the 2021 October YTD with the same period in 2020.
