Chilean fisheries and aquaculture YTD exports to Brazil grew 59.7% by October

Brazil is strengthening its status as one of the main destinations for Chilean exports in the fishing and aquaculture sector this year.

From January to October, sales from Chile to the Brazilian market generated US$ 573 million, an increase of 59.7% compared to the same period in 2020, according to data compiled by ProChile, an agency linked to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country.

Salmon and trout represent US$ 552 million, up 63.8%, fish oils accounted for US$ 9 million, a growth of 22.8%, and hake shipments rose 180.8%, to US$ 1 million.

According to ProChile, the United States remained the main destination for shipments in the country’s fishing and aquaculture segment, importing products valued at US$ 2.1 billion from January to October, 28.6% more than in the same period in 2020.

In total, Chilean exports in the segment generated US$ 5.7 billion in the first ten months of 2021, an increase of 11.1% compared to the same period last year, according to data from ProChile.
