Simulations begin for expanding the ship-receiving capacity Imbituba

On December 8th and 9th, SCPAR Porto de Imbituba began a series of five maneuver simulations to assess the possibility of larger ships entering and exiting, to expand the port’s capacity. The tests take place in a simulator in Florianópolis at the headquarters of SLI Meio Ambiente e Infraestrutura, the company hired to perform the service.
The simulations in December evaluated the feasibility and operational and environmental conditions for the entry and exit of container ships with an LOA (length) of 366 meters, and bulk carriers with an LOA of 306 meters, both with widths ( mouth – B) of 51 meters. In addition to the successful tests carried out last week, three more simulation rounds are scheduled to take place on January 10th, 11th, and 12th.
The maneuver simulations consider the current area and depth, the characteristics of currents and waves along the access channel and maneuver area, and boundary wind conditions. The objective is to provide a complete environmental characterization, even in the most critical situations, to identify the operational limits of the Port.
The next simulations will aim to identify the operational limits (LOA x B) for bulk carriers with a draft (distance between the water surface and the ship’s keel) of 13.5 meters, supported by the current and expanded fleet of tugboats. They will also aim to identify the operational limits (LOA x B) for bulk carriers and tankers for berthing in the future berth.
