Itaqui port grows at 27% rate from January to October

The data released by the Federal Government last week show that all Brazilian ports altogether handled more than 1 billion tons of cargo between January and October 2021, a figure that represents a 5.5% increase over the same period last year. In this scenario, the Port of Itaqui grew 27%, a mark well above the national average.

According to the waterway statistical panel of Antaq (the National Waterway Transport Agency), Brazilian public ports handled 344.5 million tons, which represents an increase of 5.01%, and private facilities handled a total volume of 665.8 million tons (+5.70%).

Among other public ports, shortly following the Itaqui port (+27.0%), is the Port of Itaguaí (+21.1%). Among the private ports that had the greatest growth in cargo handling compared to the period of January/October 2020, the São Francisco do Sul Terminal stands out, showing a 95.3% increase.
