Ceará ports celebrate record numbers and renewed business interest

The ports of the state of Ceará (CE) have confirmed their growth in 2021. In November alone, the Port of Pecém, for example, set a handling record with 2,297,396 tons, the best monthly handling ever recorded in the terminal’s history. The result represents an increase of 10% compared to October, a month in which 2,095,848 tons were handled.
In comparison to the same period last year, the growth was approximately 56% (1,464,294 t). Although December figures have not yet been released, the estimate is that the volume has reached 22mt.
In 2021’s year-to-date, excluding December numbers that have yet to be released, the port terminal achieved a historical result: 20,405,383 tons were handled, an increase of 41% vis-a-vis 2020 (14,458,128 t).
Considering 2021’s total handling, shipments totaled 6,583,475 tons, a growth of 37% compared to the same period in 2020 (4,788,666 tons). Landings totaled 13,821,908 tons, an increase of 43% compared to the first eleven months of last year (9,669,462 tons). The total handling for the entire 2021 will only be officially announced in the first week of January.

Mucuripe
Over the Port of Mucuripe, total cargo handling from January to November 2021 was 4,504,645 t, compared to 4,903,940 t in the 2020 YTD. General cargo, including containers, was the highlight in handling in 2021. “The port’s expectation is to close the year with similar handling as of 2020, a year in which the Port of Fortaleza grew 12.5% compared to 2019. The index was three times higher than the national average, totaling 4.9 million tons”, says the CEO of Companhia Docas do Ceará (CDC), Mayhara Chaves.
