According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), Brazilian egg exports totaled 11.3 thousand tons in 2021 (considering all products, in natura and processed). According to a study conducted by the group, the amount was 81.5 percent more than Brazil’s total exports in 2020, which were 6.2 thousand tons.
In terms of revenue, there was an increase of 80%, with US$ 18 million recorded in the first 12 months of 2021, compared to US$ 10 million in the same period in 2020.
As for December alone, egg exports totaled 2.49 thousand tons, a figure that is 72.8 percent more than the 1.44 thousand tons recorded in the last month of 2020. In terms of revenue, there was a 102.6 percent raise, with US$ 3.99 million in December 2021 compared to US$ 1.97 million the previous year.

The United Arab Emirates remains the top export destination, accounting for 50% of all Brazilian egg exports, with 6,900 tonnes exported in 2021, a volume 105% larger than the one recorded in the previous year, with 3.3 tonnes. Japan comes in second with 1.1 thousand tons (+270%), followed by Oman with 408 tons (+183%). Qatar, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia are also notable.
“In the year 2021, the month of December saw the highest volume of exports. Production costs have slashed the sector’s margins dramatically, with the two primary inputs – corn and soy bran – rising by more than 100% in some cases from one year to the next. Exports help to alleviate the difficult situation that laying poultry farming is in,” says Ricardo Santin, president of the ABPA.
