Tecon Salvador has a cargo handling record in 2021

Wilson Sons saw a 10% increase in cargo handling at Tecon Salvador in 2021. The container terminal from Bahia received 376,400 TEUs between January and December, the highest volume handled since the facility opened more than two decades ago.
Imports
Imports stood out in 2021, driven by the renewable energy segment, which grew 78% over the previous year. 13,000 TEUs landed at the terminal, mostly carrying solar energy equipment for projects in Minas Gerais’ interior northeast and north.
The landing of 64,000 tons of general cargo from the West-East Integration Railroad (Fiol in Portuguese) increased general cargo by 90%. Chemical products (+40%) and bulk items (+5%), as well as fertilizers, were also among the period’s highlights.
Exports
In terms of exports, the largest share of cargo came from the civil construction segment (+86%), tires (+60%), and fruit juices and pulp (+45%). Cabotage volumes increased by 4.1%, from 72.9 thousand TEUs in 2020 to 76.0 thousand TEUs in 2021.
The main products handled originated from the civil construction industry (+88%), various polymers (+13%), and chemicals (+4%). Transshipment and removal operations grew by 63.8%, reaching the mark of 74,400 TEUs in 2021.
