Plate region: Uruguayan foreign trade stands out in 2021

Foreign trade performed differently for each country in the Plate region in 2021. Uruguay stood out positively as containerized exports grew 8.14% last year compared to the previous year. The country’s imports grew at a rate of 28% over the same period. The data is from DataLiner.

Compared to 2019, Uruguayan exports grew by 12.26%, and imports increased by 17.32%.
On the other hand, Argentina saw a 5.26% decrease in exports compared to 2020, with 500,388.95 TEUs shipped. However, when comparing 2019 and 2021, the drop was 1.86% smaller.

Argentine imports via container grew 15.44% in the 2020-2021 comparison. The growth was 9.2% in the 2019-2021 comparison.
Paraguay, in turn, saw a drop of 3.8% in containerized exports in the 2020/2021 comparison after having shipped 52,684.37 TEUs. Conversely, compared with 2019/2021, the increase in shipments was 3.26%.
Regarding imports, in 2021, Paraguay received 98,372.81 TEUs, up 13.8% from 2020. Conversely, in the 2019-2021 comparison, there was an 8% drop in imports.

In the year-to-date of all the three countries, Exports totaled 694,316.82 TEUs, a 2.70% decrease from the 713,594.45 TEUs shipped in 2020, but a 1.12% increase from the 686,577.50 TEUs sent in 2019.
Regarding imports, Plate received, in 2021, 861,557.78 TEU, up 17.4%. Compared to 2019, the increase in imports was 9%.
