Week 202207

On Thursday, February 17, an employee’s protest blocked the entry and exit of vehicles at the Port of Maceió in Jaraguá. The port workers are demanding salary readjustments.

According to Jadson Levino, president of the Port Workers Union, the category has been trying to negotiate a readjustment for 2020 and 2021 for the past ten months.

The administration of the Port of Maceió stated in a note that a collective agreement has already been signed and approved, including a guarantee of retroactive payment for the months that the Ministry of Economy had not yet approved (see the full statement below).

A long line of trucks formed in front of the harbor. These trucks are loaded with sugar and fuel prevented from entering the port because of the protest.

Conversely, trucks that had discharged their cargo were prevented from leaving the port facilities.

Statement of the Port of Maceió

The Administration of the Port of Maceió informs that a collective agreement regarding the port workers has already been signed and approved by the company’s board, pending approval by the Ministry of Economy.

Under the present clauses, the retroactive payment for the months in which it will be necessary to wait for approval is guaranteed. In other words, everything that was within our reach has already been done.

The union’s right to demand better working conditions is legitimate; however, we cannot agree with blocking the entrance to the Port of Maceió, harming other services and other categories, and restricting the right to mobility.
