Mercedes-Benz Brazil delivered 17 urban bus chassis to Tunisia last month. Buses will be built with the chassis by a local company and used for public transport in five Tunisian cities, covering 712 km and transporting 4.5 million people a year.
According to information disclosed by Mercedes-Benz, the chassis were ordered by SRT Bizerte, which has been operating in Tunisia since 1961 with a fleet of around 220 buses. The automobile manufacturer informed of the 17 chassis exported, 14 are of the articulated model O 500 MA and three O 500 R 1830.
The sale was made possible by ICAR, representing Mercedes-Benz trucks and buses in Tunisia. According to Burak Tarim, general manager of buses at the Dubai regional office, responsible for sales of trucks and buses in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), efforts by Mercedes-Benz Brazil with ICAR were essential to achieve results such as this sale.
“It is with great pride we follow the growth of Mercedes-Benz Brazil buses in Tunisia, which proves all the company’s work in fostering new business in this overseas market,” said Tarim. “The operator SRT Bizerte has been playing an essential role in passenger transport for over 60 years, and we were pleased with the choice of the brand’s vehicles,” said Rogério Sousa, Sales & After-Sales manager for Exports of Vehicles, Parts, and Services of Mercedes-Benz Brazil Trucks and Buses.
