The Suape Port Industrial Complex initiated the third and final stage of the recovery work of its protective jetty, which serves as a barrier for the piers where cargo operations are carried out. The intervention is part of a set of scheduled works to amplify the port’s infrastructure.
Among maintenance services and investments in new assets, Suape plans to redirect up to R$71 million in improvements throughout 2022. Out of this sum, R$63M are already committed to signed contracts. The jetty’s refurbishing should be completed in the first half of next year after receiving an investment of R$ 37 million in the last stage. The previous phases were concluded with investments of R$ 24.3 million.
The jetty restoration is an important intervention that involves recreating the stone structure that serves as a protective barrier against high tides. This structure enables operations to be carried out with less interference from sea currents and waves, particularly in the external port where liquid bulk and chemical products are handled. A 1,690-meter stretch is being recuperated at the current phase, with stone blocks weighing 300 kilograms to 12 tons.
Control tower
Another project that should be completed by the end of May this year is the construction of the new Operations Control Tower next to the inner port entrance. The new tower is being built in the location of another structure that was demolished to make way for the new asset. The equipment is designed for use by professionals who control ship traffic and will be made up of containers, metal outlines, and concrete.
The project includes rooms for traffic control, administration, coordination, pilotage, and 10-person meeting space. There will also be a reception area, an observation deck, a support cabin for surveillance personnel, changing rooms, and storage space for new equipment. The tower will be 269.40 square meters in size, with three floors. R$ 2.7 million is the total investment.
