Hygiene and cosmetics exports increase 31% in February, reaching its highest value since 2014

The trade flow of personal hygiene, perfumery, and cosmetic products reached US$ 114.2 million in February 2022, up 13.3% from the same month in 2021. The trade flow is the sum of the industry’s imports and exports.
Exports totaled US$ 60.9 million in February 2022, growing 30.8% from the same period in 2021. This is the highest value recorded since 2014, according to Abihpec, the association that represents this industry.
Soap bars were the most exported items in the month, totaling US$ 15.7 million, followed by hair products (US$ 14.6 million) and oral hygiene products (US$ 6.2 million).
Imports, in turn, dropped 1.6%, to US$ 53.3 million, leading the sector to a surplus of US$ 7.6 million.
Considering January and February together, the industry’s trade balance showed a surplus of US$ 10.7 million, reversing the US$ 19.5 million deficit recorded in the same period of 2021.
