The privatization project of Companhia Docas do Espírito Santo (Codesa) received two bids for the auction that will be held next Wednesday, March 30th, by the federal government, according to Broadcast, Grupo Estado’s real-time news system.
The privatization of Codesa is the first one of a destatization list that includes the largest port complex in Latin America, the Port of Santos, whose tender is scheduled for the second half of the year. The government already expected to receive offers for Codesa’s auction from two competitors who had to deliver the required documentation until Friday, 25th, by 1 pm, at B3 headquarters.
The expectation is that the Port of Santos auction will attract more competition due to its size.
Whoever wins Codesa’s contract will take over the concession of the ports of Vitória and Barra do Riacho for a 35-year period, with direct investments totaling R$ 1.3 billion – R$ 334.8 million in assets and around R$ 1 billion in operating expenses.
The Port of Vitória, located in the capital of Espírito Santo, has a consolidated cargo portfolio and a favorable position for road and rail access. According to the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), studies indicate a potential to double cargo handling from 7 million tons to 14 million tonnes per year throughout the concession. The port features 500 thousand square meters and 14 berths available.
See below the track record of exports, imports, and cargo handling at the Port of Vitória. The data are from DataLiner.
