Argentina’s General Administration of Ports (AGP) reported that cargo handling at the Port of Buenos Aires increased by 4.9% in 2021 compared to 2020, owing to increased container and bulk operations in the port.
Containerized cargo grew by 3.4% reaching 824,700 TEUs. The increase was 2.4% in container shipments, while container landings went 4.3% up. These figures indicated that the Port of Buenos Aires is consolidating its leadership role in Argentine foreign trade as the country’s main container port.
As for bulk cargo, landings were up 60%, while loading operating reached the significant growth mark of 138.9%; These data are framed within a context of an increase in landings (+18.9) and a decrease in shipments (-8.8%)
Furthermore, in 2021, the cargo handling at the port of Buenos Aires was 7,447,400 tonnes, beating the previous year’s mobilization of 7,100,900 tonnes; general cargo corresponded to 6,542,700 tonnes and liquid bulk for 904,700 tonnes.
