Porto Murtinho port terminal resumes exporting soybeans
Mar, 29, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202213
The municipality of Porto Murtinho in Mato Grosso do Sul resumed on Saturday, March 26, operations at its largest port terminal with FV Cereais’ shipment of 23 thousand tonnes of soybeans in a 12-barge convoy, informed the Secretariat of the Environment, Economic Development, Production and Family Agriculture in the state (Semagro). The cargo went to San Lorenzo, Argentina, via Paraguay River Waterway.
According to Semagro, navigation had to be halted in the second half of last year because of the drought in the Pantanal basin. Now, the ports in the region bordering the Paraguay River are estimated to operate until September if the navigation conditions remain right.
“With intense rainfalls in the headwaters of the Paraguay River in Mato Grosso, the flow of cargo through the waterway should be greater than in the last two years, which saw intense drought in the region,” says Semagro.
