With enhanced security and workforce operation, Portonave successfully completed the unloading of the two long-awaited Gripen F-39 fighters of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) in Santa Catarina. The Dutch vessel Marsgracht departed the Port of Norrkoping, Sweden, with the two aircraft and docked in Brazil on April 1st. The unloading operation was carried out throughout the 2nd and was successfully completed by the dawn of April 3rd.

Manufactured by Saab, a company that creates aerospace security systems, the fighters were transported in the ship’s hold and were unloaded at Portonave’s berth 3. After customs clearance, the aircrafts were taken to the airport, about 2km from the terminal.

The strategic location and favourable safety conditions are among the reasons why Portonave was chosen for this operation. “Brazil’s first F-39 Gripen fighter arrived at the terminal, a complicated but successful process. In addition, the largest roller coaster in Latin America and the Ferris wheel of Balneário Camboriú also arrived here. All of this is only made possible by the use of appropriate infrastructure and the high quality of the services we provide,” highlights the Commercial supervisor of Portonave, Luís Lemos.

Around 100 professionals were involved in the aircraft unloading operation, including personnel from Portonave, the Air Force, the Brazilian Army, the Fire Department, and the Military Police, as well as representatives from Saab, the cargo agent DSV, the Federal Revenue Service, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Navegantes Traffic Department (Navetran).

In September 2020, a similar operation took place with the arrival of the first fighter of the same model. All of them are part of the amount of 36 ordered through a technology transfer program by the Brazilian government.
